World Languages at TYWLS

The TYWLS World Languages team believes in nurturing students who are not only linguistically proficient but also culturally informed, globally aware, and ready to engage with the world in meaningful and impactful ways.

We believe in:

  • Cultural Appreciation and Understanding: At TYWLS Manhattan, World Language teachers believe in fostering a deep appreciation for the diverse cultures, traditions, and perspectives that languages represent. Learning a new language is not just about communication but also about understanding and respecting different ways of life.
  • Global Citizenship: We believe that language learning is integral to developing global citizens who are aware, engaged, and empathetic towards international communities. Proficiency in world languages promotes cross-cultural dialogue and cooperation.
  • Linguistic Proficiency: We believe in equipping students with high-level linguistic skills that enable them to communicate effectively and confidently in a variety of contexts, both personal and professional.
  • Lifelong Learning: We believe that learning a language is a lifelong journey that encourages continuous growth, curiosity, and adaptability. It opens doors to new opportunities and experiences throughout life.
  • Interdisciplinary Connections: We believe that language learning enhances understanding across disciplines. It supports cognitive development, improves problem-solving skills, and enriches academic and professional pursuits.
  • Inclusive and Supportive Learning Environment: We believe in creating an inclusive, supportive, and engaging learning environment where all students feel valued and empowered to take risks in their language learning journey.
